about phil mcmenemy fine art and landscape photography - Galloway Scotland

Scottish Nature Photography Award Winner 2010

I am a fine art and landscape photographer based in beautiful Galloway, south-west Scotland.

I love images and imagery and constantly strive and search for that 'moment' - this moment for me is that unique, special time when all components come together to create the final image. This fleeting 'moment' may be the culmination of months of preparation & planning or a 'lucky strike' when one least expects it but which comes down to being in the right place at the right time.

For me an image is made up of many components, including: contrasting situations, texture, form, composition, time, a feeling and most importantly light. My colour-blindness precludes my putting 'colour' in this list - I tend to trust nature and am patient enough to return to a setting time and time again if the 'feel' isn't right.

Galloway motivates me with her moods, seasons, the vagaries of the weather and contrasting and myriad of landscapes - we are blessed.

I opened the 'Gallery at Laurieston' in May 2008 to showcase the range of my work  -  I welcome visitors and encourage you to call in, I enjoy sharing my vision of and passion for this region in particular and photography in general - please see the Gallery at Laurieston page for more information. In June 2015 we opened the new, larger and scarier Gallery at Laurieston - come and see, you'd be welcome

My career develops and blossoms and for that I am grateful however I never realised there was this much to learn, this much hard work and this many peaks and roughs! Our experiences make us who we are!

I spent many years as a Child Mental Health Nurse before relocating with my partner, Louise, whose work brought us to Dumfries and Galloway nearly ten years ago - I  attempt (sometimes successfully) to balance my time between my photography business and my children Alex (10) and Joe (7) and family life.

I really hope you enjoy viewing my images (all images are available for purchase via the website - see info page!) and looks forwards to welcoming you to the Gallery at Laurieston or answering any queries you may have via the contact page or by phoning 01644 45023501644 450235 to chat with me.
